PRIVATE PRACTICE SINCE 1995
Dr. Cora was first invited to join a part-time private practice by her research colleagues as a junior clinical research fellow at the prestigious National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Cora completed a research fellowship in NeuroPsychoPharmacology at the National Institutes of Mental Health (NIMH) at the NIH, where she also served in the US Public Health Service (USPHS). Her research experience included psychopharmacology trial design, execution, and publication; neuroimaging; transcranial magnetic stimulation; and genetics. She received the Hannah Cashman Memorial Award in recognition for her dedicated and compassionate care, given by the Consultation Liaison service at the NIMH at NIH. She also served as Executive Secretary of the NIMH Institutional Review Board (IRB). As a clinical researcher, she headed the Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Unit Research Clinic, building a highly specialized clinical team and conducting state-of-the-art clinical research, which resulted in cutting-edge treatment options and peer-reviewed publications.
Dr. Cora pursued a research career after her residency in Psychiatry at Saint Elizabeths' Hospital and George Washington University in Washington, DC. Prior to her residency, she was a clinical research fellow at the National Institutes of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), also at the NIH. She received her medical doctorate degree at the age of twenty-four with a two year-old daughter and a nine month-old son, graduating with honors at la Universidad de Buenos Aires in Argentina. In addition to her medical diploma, Dr. Cora has a master's in business administration and a master's in health administration and policy from the University of Miami, School of Business Administration. She has served on the national Board of Trustees of the American Psychiatric Association and the Board of Directors of the American Psychiatric Foundation.
After the NIH, she worked in the pharmaceutical industry and went back to private practice and consulting. This is when one of her patients asked her to facilitate a (hypnosis) regression session for her. Dr. Cora suggested she go to someone experienced in the technique. Instead, the patient insisted Dr. Cora be that facilitator: she trusted her and felt she could allow her to help her out. The patient had attended Dr. Brian Weiss’ lectures and had already visited a therapist he had suggested. Reluctantly, Dr. Cora inquired about training directly with Dr. Weiss. With a critical mind, she researched the data, reading many books and works including those by Drs. Ian Stevenson, Ray Moody, Bernie Siegel, and Rabbi Gershom, to name a few. She found the subject fascinating and incorporated relaxation and regression techniques to her practice.
Dr. Cora is the author of ExecutiveHealth.com’s Leading Under Pressure®: Strategies to Avoid Burnout, Increase Energy, and Improve Your Well-Being (Career Press, 2010). In addition, she has authored scientific papers and co-authored medical chapters in medical textbooks. She has been quoted in the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Time, Business Week, and Men and Women’s Health. She's a regular guest on radio and television shows and has appeared on national TV on CNN, FOX, and Lifetime Television.
